Red Spot

So I put my microrasbora's in my community tank today from our qt tank. I checked the fish before I moved them and then tonight my wife saw a red spot on one of them. Does any one have any ideas of what this could be? The first picture is the sick fish the second is what they are supposed to look like.

Sounds like your fish may be affected by a Costia infestation. Google for treatments and pics. I have never encountered this personally so I cannot give an accurate treatment.

I really dont know exactly what it is, but one of my mollies had the exact same thing in pretty much the same spot (yours is a little farther down the tail). But it had it for at least 5 months, I thought it was some kind of post ich infection and i tried to treat it with maracyn 2 but it had no effect. I finally got rid of him when it really started to fester on the surface. The weird thing is that he never hid or stopped eating or anything like that. Not like other fish with parasites. If your fish is doing the same id try an alternative treatment than mine. Oh yeah i have half a teaspoon of salt per a gallon of water in my tanks that might have slowed down the infection. If you do that it might buy you some time so you can figure out how to treat it.

I have not noticed any unusual behavior either. But I will keep a close eye on him.

You might want to consider raising the temperature of your tank to between 80 and 85 degrees as well. Alternetely, I think copper is the only treatment that is known to be effective for costia...although I am going off memory on that one and there may be other alternatives. A quarantine tank is probably something to look at/think about.
