Re: Madcatz Saltwater Setup (continious updates)
That's a good skimmer, I have one on my 55g and it works well. I also just bought the Remora Pro with Mag 3 pump for my 90g and that thing is even better. (picked it up on ebay brand new for $204 including shipping). I like your setup by the way, I'll be starting a thread like yours for my tank next week.

Re: Madcatz Saltwater Setup (continious updates)
If you can, get the surface skimmer/ bubble trap. Works really really good with skimming skum off of the surface of the water. I had tons of surface build up, within a week it was gone. I now have none all the time. A well spent $34 for the add on....

Re: Madcatz Saltwater Setup (continious updates)
thanks for the good note chad. I wish you luck in your endeavor. I hope this lasts a while for me, or at least till my brother moves down to VA with me. Technically it is his tank....but everything else is mine thus far...all his old equipment was all in tatters (Old Pirahana Tank setup), so I bought new.
Brad....that box is worth it? I saw it and considered it, but if you guys say so......hrm, back to the shopping cart

Re: Madcatz Saltwater Setup (continious updates)
hokay so I noticed my output water was getting all sorts of bubbles and shiat from the fluva, and not as strong. Another trip to the fish store.....lol the entire saltwater crew knows me by name and my entire setup now. Hell some of them give me their discount (25%) oh how I love spending money....not. Got New Filter Media and washed out the canister. Not a fun job...but back to normal and it let me use the remaining water I had from the water change to fill the canister back up. My ph is sweetly set at 8.2, Nitrates are 0, nitrites are 0 and ammonia is 0.....1.021 salinity......damn Im feeling good about myself. I thought it would have crashed on me by now. All I have to do now is fish out some of my clean up crew and do a trade in at the LFS when I want my next fish.
I also found out today that I got a CRAB as a hitchhiker when I got my large center piece of LR. After the photos and everything last night, I fed the fish one last time for the day and was just watching....al of a sudden I see the rock move and Im like WTF! low and behold there was the lil critter trying to get his fair share. He didnt stick around for me to get a picture of. He is about the size of a silver dollar and has hairy type legs that are stripped. Black and goldish. Also on top of that I havent seen the Basslet all day. il bastard better make an appearance tomorrow or Im going in looking for him.
And the prefilter box has been ordered.....I wish I would have gotten it on the first order as shipping was free. Plus I didnt notice till after the orders were complete that they give away free stuff when you spend x ammounts. Yeah free stuff may not be the best, but its free.....yay....hrm, food for thought next time.

Re: Madcatz Saltwater Setup (continious updates)
hokay so AquaC Remora is due here tomorrow with the prefilter box for the mag3. I was at the local fish store this last weekend and found a green mandarin goby that was tiny. Something I can raise. We made sure he was eating and transfered him to another small tank while I seeded my tank with copepods...I am in the process of getting together a refugium to harvest my own copepods and the sort....ugh this is becoming a normal endeavor of just signing over my paycheck the LFS...but on the plus side, while at the LFS today talking to my guy there he wants me to wait till at least the end of the week to get the tank properly seeded for the Mandarin and well he had recommended that if I cant wait to add something the Fire Goby's in the first tank are great to add in pairs and survive kinda like a damsel...really easy to maintain and care for.....so I added two. Yay....my livestock is as follows now:
x1 Fire Clown
x1 Pink Bubble Tip Anemone
x1 Fairy Wrasse
x1 Black Cap Basslet
x2 Fire Goby
x1 Green Mandarin Goby (LFS)
x1 Tiger Cowrie
x5 Peppermint Shrimp
x2 Cleaner Shrimp
x1 Unknown Crab
I cant keep count but assorted snails and hermits. I dont see any extra shells laying around so my last count of 20 something of each should still be accurate. Im about to ween out some of them and trade back into the LFS, but the algae is growing just as fast as they are eating it. So Im not to sure I want to remove my check and balance system as of yet.
My Fluval is acting up. Sometimes it spits out bubbles.....like alot of tiny bubbles, not like a burp it does every 24 hours. Right after the cleaning and media change out it was just pouring air bubbles out and clouding the tank with air bubbles. Now its sparatic and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. I went over the connections and they are tight, there is no breaks in the hose and the lid is fastened down nice and snug. (Its a Fluval FX5 is you didnt read page 1)
No extra lights yet. I am unsure if I even want to up the lighting. Its nice the way it is, and I am still on the fence about getting coral since I am thinking about getting an angle.
new pictures will be up once I get the tank scrubbed and the Goby's calm down, I cant get a still shot of them at all right now as they are exploring the tank like mofos...at least now I have life. The clown, the basslet and the wrasse all get along....they just hide from me still.....bastards

Re: Madcatz Saltwater Setup (continious updates)
hoky so I also just got a Canary Blenny. He is swimming around all lost...I dont know what to do...he will find a place. And to get my head at rest about leaving the Aqua C Remora running when I am not here I just pull out the collection cup.....yes not what the thing is designed to do, but when I leave for work at 5-6 am and I dont know when ill get home, Im afraid of leaking......so till I get it to fully cycle and I know how long it will run before the cup is full, this is how I will attend to things....more photos this weekend
