White fuzzy algae????

i havent been able to find a diagnosis for this. there is a white fuzzy, transparent algae type stuff growing on my driftwood and other decorations. i have a ten gallon planted with java moss and fern, with a blue ram in there.

my main question is..what is this? i havent found anything on white algae. it looks like transparent cotton and is spreading everywhere. are there ways to treat it, fish that eat it??

this is common with most types of driftwood .. its harmless .. but horrible as eyecandy on beautiful peices of eye candy ..

towards the bottom is a little article on that .. i have a little white fuzz on my driftwood too, really changes the look sadly

i dont think so .. mine has tempted to catch on to it but has done no help .. every article ive read about it says it goes away in time ..

i guess with every thing of beauty, comes some sort of pimple LOL

Leads me to believe it could be common hair algae sometimes called thread algae and not the "mold or fungus" which can grow on driftwood.

A Picture would help confirm what is going on in your tank. Then we can find some solutions for you.

this stuff is spreading more and more everyday!! its starting to get on my java moss and i think its killing my plants! what the hell is it!



you can see it on the driftwood. that floating green thing is thread i used to attach plants.


please help identify!

I just read on another post to take out your driftwood and boil it . clean it off after and vacume your gravel real good. They said its gone and has not come back. They said it was very bad, in the filter and covering gravel etc...Evidently it comes from putting unseasoned or uncured driftwood into your tank. I just took mine out tonight, I have 2 huge 3 foot long and 6-8 inch thick peices, i will need to boil mine outside in my turkey fryer/boiler. What a pain. But its not as much of pain as having that crap everywhere. I sure hope i took it out in time.
