New to me 60 gallon set up
I currently have an established 40 gallon community tank with a canister filter and gravel substrate. I am going to be upgrading to a 60 gallon and would like to use sand as the substrate.
I've got a few questions regarding the switch. First, are there any large drawbacks in sand vs, gravel? I've read a bunch of threads about it already and it seems that a weekly light sand vac and some Malaysian Trumpet Snails would solve the main issues of compaction and the accumulation of surface 'junk'. Is there anything else I need to know regarding general maintenance/tips and tricks?
Since I will be using an established canister filter (with bio balls and ceramic rings) on the new tank, how do I cycle it? Do I even need to cycle it? The plants, driftwood and established filter will be moving from the old to the new tank. Is that good enough to be able to fill the new tank right out of the gates?
Any help is always appreciated.
