Welcome to FTF Scotty Boy! Sorry I missed this one earlier!
You will want to quarantine new fish for about 3 to 4 weeks and they should be in their own tank, not the display tank. Usually something around ten gallons with just the basics for equipment and decor will do (Filter, heater, live rock, some PVC pipe 'caves').
FOWLR is easier to keep than a Reef tank. Many people will start off with a FOWLR tank even if they do plan to eventually convert it to a reef setup down the road. Gives them plenty of time to do lots and lots of research!
You will definitely want a filter in addition to a protein skimmer. I would look into getting a large canister filter meant for a tank a bit bigger than your 75g. You could also add a strong Hang-on-the-Back style power filter to give you additional filtration power and surface agitation. A couple power heads to eliminate any 'dead' spots of low water current and you should be set. I've used AquaClear, Marine Land, and Cascade equipment, all of which has worked well for me.
