Re: What Kind of Fish Can Live In a Fish Bowl?
To be honest, a fish bowl really isn't appropriate for any fish that you plan on keeping alive and healthy for the duration of it's life. Some fish (betta) have the ability to survive in such situations for much longer than most, because of a unique trait they have, however that doesn't mean it's an ideal environment for them. They will be exposed to ammonia, which isn't good for any fish, and drastic changes in temperature and other water chemistry issues that will make it an up hill battle even for the fish just to survive let alone thrive and be happy. If you want to get your girlfriend a fish, I strongly recommend getting her a little five gallon tank with a filter and heater, cycle it properly (we have more info on this process) and then you will have several options of fish that could do well in such a setup. I know this is likely not what you were wanting to hear, but I hope it helps none the less.
