Aragonite and African cichlids
I recently changed my substrate from small pebbles to aragonite. As I expected, I had a bit of a problem with cloudiness, but today (48 hours later), I could see the wall behind the fish tank, finally. I cleaned out the filter several times during this process. Today I tested the water parameters, and everything looked a-okay. I added in two of my acai cichlids and they immediately took to the aragonite, but lo and behold, they stirred it up, and my water got cloudy again. Soooo.....I need someone's wisdom here: I know cichlids love to mess with the substrate, and mine have even moved my rocks around, but is the aragonite going to get super cloudy like this all the time, or is it just silt that is layered over the top? I understood the aragonite would become somewhat clay-like and that yes, I should expect those little "puffs" of cloudiness, but once again, I can't even see through the tank to enjoy my fish. Yes, I rinsed out the sand before placing it in the aquarium, but (rookie mistake) I learned about the pillowcase method after having placed it in my aquarium. Can anyone with experience tell me what I can expect from here on out?
