Hello all. I'm completely new at this whole salt water tank thing, so bare with me. I have an 29 gallon salt water set up, with just a blue tang in it for now. I'm getting all sorts of purple and green alge problems. Ive been told that its from the tap water, so i went to walmart and got 5 gallons of there water and going to do a water change. My question is how will I heat the water that im putting in up??? Or do I not need to?? I was thinking that i could take the heater out of the tank and put it in the 5 gallon bucket, probably stupid for thinking that but. Let me know what ya'll think....Thanks, Bryan

Welcome to the forum, glad you are here. How long has this tank been set up, what are the water parameters? I can tell you that a 29 gallon saltwater tank is going to be very hard to maintain. It is much easier to keep a 50+ gallon than a smaller one. More water = less impact. Did you cycle this tank? What kind of a setup/equipment do you have? What did you treat the tap water with and what other chemicals have you added? Please provide more info and we will try and help.
