Diy filter for fluval 405 cansiter filter

Hi,

I currently have a 55 gallon freshwater setup.

I have 5 fantail goldfish, 1 rubber nose pleco, an albino cory and 1 upside down cat.

I have a Penguin Biowheel 330 and a Fluval 405 for filtration.

I want to find some low cost alternatives to filter media.

I use blue filter floss in 2 of my fluval media baskets and ceramic rings in the other 2 media baskets. I want to find a way to get a lower cost filter foam to replace the existing HAGEN fluval foam inserts for my foam insert tray.

Is there a place to find this type of foam in bulk, so that I may just cut it to size?

Good News Steeve..go to Walmart, head to the sewing/crafts section and look for rolls of quilting batting. I have found large rolls of the stuff for about 4 bucks. Just cut what you need. Lasts forever doing it this way.

Is this quilt batting the same as the blue filter floss, just white?

If so, as I stated I already use this for my media baskets and already have some.

I was looking for a thicker type of foam. The blue blue filter floss I use is very flimsy, and if I used it to put it in the foam insert tray it would fall out, as the tray fits in the filter vertical.
