Xenia Dies off !!
Hi everyone..
This is something weird but all the corals in my tank are fine except XENIA. I got a Xenia from the LFS a month back and it died in 3days. I thought the Stock was damaged and i got another Xenia but even this is falling apart slowly. What could be the reason ?
Did water tests and everything is normal
pH : 8.4 and kH : 10.8
I hav attached Pix .. Please help me out.
Thanks

Re: Xenia Dies off !!
hey V88..that is quick for it to start to wither within a couple of days and if it is not the water, which is always my first suspect, then I would turn to lighting. Anytime I have moved my Xenia in distance from the light I get a reaction. What kind of lights are you using and how close to the light are they? When you bought them, what kind of lighting and how close? Mine are very sensitive about lighting changes. Your other corals may be fine because there was either not much of a change for them, they have adjusted to the lights or prefer the stronger/lesser, whichever lights.

Re: Xenia Dies off !!
How old are your bulbs? After about 6 months that start to lose their strength. You mention no chiller...what does the temp stay at?

Re: Xenia Dies off !!
Xenia is funny.
We were able to keep it fine for months and then it melted on us.
We've tried it since in both low and high light displays plumbed into a setup that's supporting extremely delicate corals and fish, and it always melts within days. I have no idea what it needs that I'm not providing, but I can't keep it alive either.
Some of the other local "reefers" are growing it like crazy in their sumps and refugiums to use as a nutrient export. They cant kill the stuff and I can't keep the stuff alive
