Pinnaple Sword Tail with Minor Fin rot, and Platy with unknown gill disease!
Recently my Pineapple Sword Tail was having a hard time, she has fin rot on her dorsal fin. And my Mickey Mouse Platy seams to have it looks like mucous, or mold on the bottom part of her gills? Is this possible? Anyways I tried to take picture put I cant seem to take a good one. I also bought tetra lifeguard, wasted my money on that. I'm on the 5th (last) day of dosing, and nothing has changed. Is there any cheap medication, I can put in my tank that will not harm the bio-cycle, and will not harm any other fish (meaning I can add i to the actual tank, itself. Thanks so much!

Re: Pinnaple Sword Tail with Minor Fin rot, and Platy with unknown gill disease!
Sorry Nathan, this is one of the many bad side effects of using fish in the cycle. It weakens their condition and can make them very vulnerable to all kinds of ailments. We do have a video tutorial on fish ailments and what can be done to help. Have you watched that? I will search around and see what I can find.
Follow up: If you watched the suggested tutorial it mentions Gill flukes, which is what it sounds like you are experiencing. If so salt baths can help. Might research and find the best method for your needs but I would suggest daily baths.

They are all located in the subsection "Site suggestions, comments, feedback.." Just click on them and they play. It should say common ailments and diseases, I think, been a while since I watched them. let me know if you have trouble locating.

I found it, but is doesn't talk about cures, do you know if gill fluke is contagious, and ways of treating fin rot?

I suggested salt baths in the earlier post. I would do a couple of things first. I would Google Gill flukes and see what you can find and you can always use the "search" function on the tool bar up above and possible find some posts where others have had some success. We are planning more videos but they are time consuming so you will need to do a little research..and please keep us informed, you may discover something that works better than salt baths.

So salt baths work for flukes, and rot? And are they contagious?
Thanks again

Yes both are contagious. Salt baths will certainly work for flukes, and most other parasites, although I'm not sure how effective they will be on fin/mouth rot. I usually use Melafix to treat something like that. However that being said, I know people will sometimes use salt in order to help promote the healing of damaged fins and scales, so maybe that has something to do with it. Not sure though, Judge may have a better explanation.
