SuperBac Aquarium Nitrifying Bacteria Review

Two weeks ago, I went to my LFS and asked the guy for some gravel, to help cycle my 55 gallon. He then pointed out a shelf with different bottles Call " Superbac Aquarium LIVE nitrifying Bacetia." There were different size bottles for different size tanks. It said add live stock before so I purchased, a couple Angels, and bought an 80 gallon bottle for $22 dollars (I used some of the bottle for my breeding tank.) I got home added my Angels to my other fish, waited 24 hours, added the superbac, and in a week it was cycled. It did make my Nitrite spike up a bit, but not to much. I read online that all the other peoples tank got cycled within three days, but every time I read a review, everyone had 100% success. So, I would just like to recommend this to people who want to quickly cycle their tank. NOTE: You only add it one time; They have botles for fresh and salt water.

Sorry, I beg to differ. I have talked with several people who were sold the "snake oil" and all it did was cost them to lose a lot of fish. Most veterans here do not recommend using fish to cycle with because those elements that are a natural part of cycling are toxic to fish. I would never personally suggest using anything that has that potential and would hope that all fishy folks would carefully consider the risks involved and decide to go with fishless cycling, which is the recommended method.

I'm with judge. there seems to be an ever increasing number of these cycling additives. some get better reviews that others. but at this point, if some one lucks out with a quick cycle after using one of these products, than good for them. results rarely seem to be consistent for everyone that uses the product.

at my last aquarium society meeting, we had a presentation by a man who develops products such as the new Microbe Lift line. I though he was there to teach us something that we maybe didn't know about the ecology of our tanks. Wrong! we all got a free bottle of "Special Blend" and were encouraged to go out and buy the rest of the line of products. (of course it's like three different bottles of stuff to fully cycle the tank, and you have to add it every week for best results.) Sorry, that whole idea smells funny to me.

Congrats on the quick cycle though. And good luck with the new tank! I hope i can start buying parts to my new toy soon. I have my wife talked into a 125 gallon. i can't wait.

Yeah, i don't know much yet but i would never risk my fish while i am cycling the tank. I would ensure that the tank is completely cycled before adding fish to it.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but a question regarding the bacteria .. do we need to add external bacteria to a used tank after you wash it nicely ? I mean all the bacteria is gone right ?
