29 Gallon Planted
Here is some recent images of my main tank. I'm still really trying to learn some stuff with it so it's no show quality tank by any means, but it's starting to work.
This is two of my new rainbows.
Here is a cherry shrimp i haven't seen for a minute.
One more shot with a flash...
All I will say is that pressurized CO2 really changes things.

That looks awesome! Like an underwater jungle or something! I wish my plants looked that healthy.

What does the pressurized Co2 do for you? I am fairly new at having bigger than a 10g fish tank.

Re: 29 Gallon Planted
thank you all for the compliments! i'm still tweaking the nobs a little to work out some of the kinks. but i've learned a lot.
tigerman...... carbon is one of the macro nutrients needed for plants to grow and flourish. i spent months doing DIY co2 (generating co2 with yeast/sugar slurries) and all it really accomplished was turning my tank into a Black Brush Algae farm. the gas output was very inconsistent. some batches produced more gas than others, it was a pain. pressurized co2 was a much larger upfront investment, but it has allowed me to get my co2 level where i want and keep it there. this is a key step in controlling algae. also it makes the plants very happy. you can see them bubbling away when the lights are on, releasing o2 for the fish. another one of the benefits is it has lowered my ph a bit. my tap water is in the 7.6 to 7.8 range. since i am pushing co2 to the 30ppm+ range, it has lowered my ph to 6.5, which is better for the plants.
speaking of plants, where is Jay?

Re: 29 Gallon Planted
presently, i am using way too much light. i have one 65w power compact and two 24w t5ho, all 6700 k. due to the ghetto rigged nature of my setup, i am problably only really getting use of about 65 to 75 percent of that. could be more, could be less. i really don't know. once i complete the stand that i am building for the tank, i will focus on building a new hood and hopefully be able to harness all that power. i'll probably end up cutting back on light a little. in the mean time, i've really been focusing on dosing and co2. i think my EI dosing is pretty close to where i need it to be. getting co2 dissolved effectively and well distributed in the tank is the real challenge.

Re: 29 Gallon Planted
yes, i'm using a diffuser. by itself, it doesn't do much though. i'm using a small submersible filter to break up and push little co2 bubbles around the tank. even that is not very efficient. i'm researching canister filters and plan on misting with one of them. not sure what kind of filter i want yet.

Re: 29 Gallon Planted
Healthy looking man, your doing something right with the CO2 no algae that I can see.
I think you would like impeller misting although I have moved to canister injected on all of my tanks.
You also have a lot of nutrient hogs...might be time to move up to some centerpiece guys. I found a Kliner Barr at petsmart in excellent condition...unbelievable.
I would also recommend a drop checker when your budget will afford the hit for a good one
