Re: First Tank Setup - 125 Gallon
angels are usually the first to die when something goes wrong with your tank...check your parameters and do a large water change if anything is off...is your tank completely cycled??? if not i recommend buying some actual bacteria like tetra safe start ASAP so your other fish dont die either

Re: First Tank Setup - 125 Gallon
I tried to read back to see if there was any mention of this tank being cycled. If not I am not surprised that your fish are not surviving. Buying a cycling product will not prevent the damage done. Cycling products are snake oil and do not really change, speed up or circumvent a naturally occurring process.

Re: First Tank Setup - 125 Gallon
Yeah, I knew it wasnt cycled. I wanted to do it the natural way with starter fish.
In the process of doing 1/3 water changes. I just hook up the hose to the power head for draining and then refill with buckets. Any better ways?
I have stress zyme to use after I get done with the quICK control.
I was assuming its better not to mix, is this right?

Re: First Tank Setup - 125 Gallon
Sorry, I am not trying to be negative but two things come to mind. First , I see nothing natural about buying fish and bringing them home solely for the purpose of abusing them. Second, I do not consider Angels as starter fish? In order to be successful a certain amount of patience is always going to be necessary. I consider my fish to be my pets. I would not put them through any needless stress any more than I would my Australian Shepherds.
As far as cycling, I use pure ammonia from Ace Hardware and safely/naturally cycle without harming anything. It creates all the "natural" bacteria you could ever need.

Re: First Tank Setup - 125 Gallon
I meant natural by staying away from chemicals. The natural process of fish waste and food creating ammonia, not adding pure ammonia.
If I understand correctly, the ick would have happened even if my tank had gone through a fishless cycle.

Re: First Tank Setup - 125 Gallon
Let me explain a little more. First, Stress Zyme and Quick Control?? are chemicals. I believe I read where you used water from your hose? If that is tap water then it contains either Chlorine or Chloramine
Lastly, Ich (we have a very good video on this topic) is a parasite and comes with your fish. I have never had Ich in my freshwater tank. I cycled it properly and my Angels and Discus are very healthy. For a complete explanation on how to get rid of Ich please refer to our video on this topic.

Re: First Tank Setup - 125 Gallon
Ok, not trying to argue. I guess I just got a little excited to put fish in the tank.
I watched the videos, I turned up my my heaters to 84*
I read on other places about being against the salt bath so I decided to use a specialty product geared at my individual problem.
Anyways, I have 4 gold barbs and 2 tetras left. One of my tetra still has a white spot on the his tail. I will continue treatment until done.
Thinking another water change will be needed tomorrow.
