It is always fun setting up a new tank......what kind of fish do you have in mind?

Re: My new FW 55gal let me know what you think
I have 2 "blue dwarf" gouramis, 2 blk mollies, and a 4 baby baby catfish they're about 1" long. I have 4 b/c I figure not all of them will make it. I want just a small group of community fish. I also want a few FW shrimp really like the Cherry Reds. Going to replace the fake plants w/ real, as often as money will allow. I have 3 real plants right now and I bought those bulbs you throw in the tank also. We'll see how far those go.

Re: My new FW 55gal let me know what you think
be patient with the bulbs. I threw a bunch in my tank once....most of them didnt make it, but a few did. Every once in a while one will come up with the vacuuming that hasn't made it. Then one day after may a couple of months at least, I noticed a red tiger lotus was growing....I was very surprised since it had been so long.
You can also get bamboo shrimp. they are filter feeders and will sit on a rock or other elevated surface and hold out these feathery appendages that catch bits of stuff floating in the current then pull it to their mouth.....the cherry shrimp may be a bit small to be housed with catfish.....could become a snack. Although bamboo shrimp are more sensitive to sudden or large parameter changes.....so you have to acclimate a little longer and make changes a little more slowly, but worth it. They are an interesting creature.

Cool tank! I think a background would be a nice touch. I like painting the back black with krylon acrylic latex enamel indoor/outdoor paint. You only paint the outside of the tank, obviously, and it peels off real easy if you change your mind later.
