I have a 65 Gallon TruVu Aqua system that's up and running wonderfully. However, when the pump was off the other day, I noticed in the pump side of the internal filter, there was debris. Not just a little of it, a lot of it. When I turned the pump back on it shot a bunch out of it etc etc.
So here's my dilemna ;
The pump/outtake is on the left. Now, the situation is I want to shut off the filter, and take the pump out, UV canister disconnected and out, and scrub it all down. I then want to use a gravel vac and suck up all that gunk. About two and a half weeks ago I went from a White Gravel to a black silica sand ... but after some water testing (even after a debris cleanup and straining of the water), everything is going strong and there hasn't been a mini cycle.
My concerns are really with the UV being on that side, the pump etc and right now there's a bunch of debris and build up in the hoses and such. So while I want to clean it, I also don't want to kill off the tank. Also, in the overflow side (right side) I've noticed a build up of a offwhite gunk, which I'm thinking it just needs to be cleaned up as well. Soooooooo, I'm asking, should I do the clean up on both sides or just the pump side while leaving the overflow alone ? I'm in no rush, but I'm planning on doing a water change this Sunday, so that'd be about the time I'd get down and dirty. Thanks ahead of time
Pic of the tank now...
