Technical Q re: Posting Albums / Pix

OK... In honor of my recent "promotion" to Betta (did that happen at 50 posts?), I wanted to post an "album" of my tank pictures. I've tried 3 different places and I'm having either no luck or too many questions. I even tried FAQs first this time and something's not working. Can someone provide some help, please?

First I tried (as directed in FAQs) to go in thru User CP and then "Add Album". Got that far, even made an album name. Then I went in to "upload pictures" and was able to "browse" my PC's pix and click on 3 pix to go in the album. They dropped the file names into the 3 fields. Then I clicked "Upload Pictures" and I got an Error Page that said "This Program cannot display the webpage" and some other junk about the website encountering problems or my not being connected to the internet. Well I'm here, so the website doesn't seem to be having a problem and clearly I'm connected to the web... so I'm stumped. I even tried it with only 1 picture instead of all 3, and got a different error message, but it still didn't work.

So next I went elsewhere, to the Aquarium and Fish Pictures (Freshwater Category). Followed the same steps there and got the same error message.

So then I went to Freshwater Aquariums - General Discussion to the Sub-Forum: Freshwater Aquarium Pictures. I figured this would HAVE to work, cuz all it looked like I needed to do was start a new thread, "manage attachments" (again browsing to choose the pix from my PC) and then "upload,"but ... you guessed it: same error message!

Plus I have a vague concern re: all this talk about a hacker hit (in January?), combined with folks mentioning "photobucket" and other sites that manage one's pictures????? Do I have to use a website / program, rather than attaching / uploading from my PC? Is it "safer" to do it that way, so no one gets access to your PC?

OK, I'm having question / problem overload. Probaly time for me to go to sleep. Hope there'll be some guidance here or me in the AM.

I was so psyched that I finally had pictures to show off (don't get too excited, this is a newbie's daughter's 10 gallon with only plastic / fabric plants (not quite ready for that big step yet...give me a few weeks) But I still wanted to "see them on the Big Screen" .

i think i encountered the same problem when i was first uploading pictures. the pixel dimensions that this site uses are a lot smaller than what generally come directly out of digital cameras. to get them to upload to the site, i had to resize the pictures.(i know, the site says it will do it for you if your pictures are too large. but it did not for me) i went to www.resize.it. it's an online resizing program that worked well for me. give that a try.

Seems like there have been bugs in the vbulletin photo software for ever. Your solution looks like a winner...I am going to try it out later today.

First & Foremost: Thank you soooo much, peanutbowl! You're a genius! That is EXACTLY what the problem was: the files & the dimensions were just too big! If it hadn't been 2am, I might have thought of it myself, since once you described it, I realized that had happened when I was trying to give myself a "Profile Picture". Once I resized my Profile Photo (smaller), it went in without a problem. So I've gone into my own Photo-Edit software and resized each one of my Album pix (no larger than 600 X 450 pixels), and then created 2 albums. Yahoo!!

Next, Jay: You can let Susie know I solved the problem, thanks to peanutbowl. A "Site Suggestion" might be to add some instrux at the Add Album option explaining that photo dimensions must be MANUALLY resized to fit the 600 X 600 pixel limit.

NOW a new question: As I described, I added those two albums in my User CP section (and marked them as Public), and I had kinda-sorta hoped that those albums would then default into the Aquarium and Fish Pictures Forum. But in looking around in that Forum after I loaded my User CP albums, I couldn't find my pix in that Photo Forum, and couldn't figure if there was a way to search that Forum for Member Name. Does this mean, if I want those same albums to be in the "Fish Pix" Forum, I need to add them separately and manually?

Can anybody provide advice / ideas on this? Thanks!!

Congrats on the promo. Just a comment on the picture sizing. Your pics are just beautiful and when you double click on each one it makes it larger than life so you can really see your pretty fish and tank...

i replied to this problem in the other area, but if the user can check which antivirus she's using, that might be why its blocking them. she might have to add this domain to her safe list.
