quick question about table salt
i have recently seen evidence of ich in the community tank again. the first time i treated the tank with malachite green. i raised the temp to about 84 degrees and treated the tank three times in three day intervals. the symptoms quickly dissappeared and i figured that i had it licked. anyway, friday night i noticed similar spots on my angel fish. at that point, i started raising the temp in preparation for treatment with salt.(the tank stays around 78 degrees) by the time i got home from work on saturday with salt to use, the angel was getting beat up by the paradise fish. long story short, my injured tiger barb was returned to the community tank and the gourami was placed into solitary in the hospital tank. that being said, i have two tanks to treat for ich now. unfourtunately, the angel didn't make it through the night. and at this point, only the gourami is showing symptoms but i don't want to take chances with the others in the community tank so it will get treated too.
to my question. the table salt i have is iodized salt but it also has sodium silicoaluminate, dextrose, and sodium bicarbonate listed as ingredients. the bicarbonate doesn't worry me, however the dextrose and sodium silicoaluminate do. should i get another brand of salt or is this acceptable?
