Brittle Star kills jawfish

I had 2 jawfish living in same hole in substrate for about a year, last night I found both of them dead laying on the substrate, a brittle star I have had for about 2 months has moved into their hole. Did the brittle star kill the jawfish, or did he run them out of their hole and allow other fish to kill them. Just looking for anybody who has experienced this. There were no apparent marks on the jawfishes bodies of what could have happened. Thanks for the help.

I have a Spiney Serpent Starfish/Brittle star and I feed him chunks of "people" shrimp, raw. I have never caught him doing anything that warranted him being put in time out! However, I have read about the green variety and they are suppose to be quite the night time hunters. I read where they will bow up in the top of fish caves and drop down on unsuspecting fish. I do know that "Gordo" (my star) is very opportunistic and does not mind cleaning up anything that is no longer moving! So I am thinking, if the star killed them, he probably would have eaten on them if not all of them.If the Jawfish were driven from their hole, what other possible grumps could have picked on them?

I have a Niger Triggerfish, Bicolor Angelfish, Lawnmover Blenny, 3 Damsels, a Chromis, these are all in a 90 gallons tank.

I had one green brittle eating fish. He got fairly large before fish started disappearing, though... and he didn't leave much left to be found.
