Well, I don't think my sick zebra is going to make it through the night. He's down for the count on the bottom. When I fed them tonight he came up and joined the others but didn't seem to eat. The others didn't seem to be harrassing him or anything. Now he's back on the bottom breathing rapidly. All the others seem fine though I think one more danio might be ever so slightly acting different. I'll just keep an eye on him I guess. If they were stressed from moving into my tank, they shouldn't be just now showing signs over 24 hours later would they??

Well, the other danio passed on. The remaining 4 seem strong. 1 of my two clowns seems pretty listless today. I picked up some frozen bloodworms which all but the 1 loach gobbled up. I really hope he's just having an off day! I picked up a hardness test kit finally and the results are as follows. KH 5 dKH (89.5 ppm) in the tank 6 dKH (107.4 ppm) source. GH is 1 dKH (17.9 ppm ) in tank and source. I don't quite understand how to read the results on the chart... It seems strange to me that the two readings are so far apart. Either way, does anyone think these readings are detrimental to my fish??

fish can go several days without eating.....but if you have a chance, try to pick up a product like "garlic extreme", it will stimulate their appetite and sometimes help that sick fish start eating again.....

As to treating your water, if you have well water that has not been treated, you generally dont need to use the products you mentioned, but you it might be helpful to test the water directly from your well before it goes through the softener.....it may be better for your fish.

Well, the verdict isn't looking so good. I'm down to one loach(still halthy looking/acting) and 4 Danios. One hanging at the surface weakly gasping and very pale except for what looks like bleeding under the skin near his anal area. The other 3 are acting ok but seem quite bloated. Incorrect acclimation to my tank; disease; inappropriate water condition...Who knows? I guess if they all die I'll have to begin entirely from scratch and sterilize everything. Things seemed to be going so well. I had good luck cycling...oh well. I just went nextdoor and got some of my neighbors well water as he doesn't have a softener. I'll test it and if it seems better I'll do some small partial water changes and go from there. I'm quite discouraged and frustrated but I'm not ready to give up yet!
