just thought a poll would be quick access to the numbers of readers who:
have planted tank yes/no
use co2 yes/no
use aq salt yes/no
use ro or di water yes/no
use tap water yes/no
supplement with fertilzers yes/no
are you satisfied with the results yes/no
with the last one, you could leave a space to explain their satisfaction of dissatisfaction with their system.
it may even be interesting to find out stocking levels:
0-25% 25-50% 50-75% 75-100% >100%
rather than trying to read through layers of replies, the info is just right there. Plus, in thread format, many may not respond, either not wanting to read through all the replies or if their answer is already expressed.
a poll in the above simple format would be more likely to elicit greater numbers of responses. The information in graph form would be a very informative way for those considering setting up a tank or upgrading to see what larger numbers of people are doing and does it work for them. Even if the numbers ended up being split fairly evenly, it would still help the individual to say "I can use either format and still get a tank that works"
It has been my experience as I have researched more into the setting up of my tank, that at times opinions are given as if they are the only right way and you are not a good fish keeper and you will not have success if you do it another way. This kind of info from this type of format, may alleviate some of what an individual may have experienced while allowing them to set up their tank according to their liking and their budget.
btw....I am not trying to slight those with salt water tanks. I just dont know anything about them and the poll would get too complex to try to compare the two tanks. Another poll could always be set up for saltwater tanks.

Are you saying who prefers saltwater tanks v. freshwater tanks?? I put nothing in my freshwater tank but plants, very soft wellwater, and fish. I am not an advocate of adding a bunch of chemicals to my tanks, salt or fresh.
