Chemicals can be a good thing in some cases but all too often they mask a problem temporarily that resurfaces in a bigger worse way taking a different and more powerful chemical but the problem gets worse etc. Much better apporach is to deal with the real root cause. In general we try not to dump chemicals in the ocean (people are arrested when they catch them doing that). Obviously some differences due to scale but the natural order will prevail
