Floating Fish

Since yesterday my Betta has stopped swimming around in his tank. He just floats at the surface not doing anything. His appetite is fine and he shows no other signs of being sick. What could be wrong with him?

maybe a 25% water change might perk him up.

I aggree with orb. Are you using a bowl, a box (a square box with no filtration) or an Aquarium? If any try a water change and if not... well... he may be sick beyond cure...! I am no expert at all so maybe wait till judge sees your post she always helps !

Hi Candycane I am far from an expert on anything but I do have some questions. Please tell us more about your tank...what size, how long up and running, any other roomies with your Betta? What are your basic water params - ammonia, NO2, NO3?
Just curious, do you have any decor in the tank? I ask because last week I witnessed a Betta that appeared to be sleeping, quite soundly, on the top of an artificial plant. I thought there was something wrong and the owner laughed and stated he does this all the time. She walked over lightly tapped on the tank and he woke up, swam away. I can only imagine what he might have been thinking!!LOL

I have never bred Beta's but I would also look around for bubbles. I have seen them build nests and stick around the top for a while with no issue. They also have a special organ so they can breath air directly by gulping at the surface so it is possible that something has him looking for more air. Just a couple thoughts to consider

False alarm everyone!!

There was a plant that I had taken out of his tank and forgot to put back in. When I remembered and put it back in he started swimming around like the happiest fish in the world. I guess he was just sad and lonely for his friend the tiger lotus lol !!!
