Does it have these Symptoms?
Restlessness
Fish begins to lose coloration
As cysts develop, body may become lumpy
Fish has difficulty swimming
In advanced cases spine may become curved
Secondary infections such as fin rot and bloating
If so you need to remove the fish as it will quickly spread to your other fish.

loss of clour and lump on head heres a few photos not very clear as these are fast fish

I would remove the fish or it will spread to all the other inhabitants in the tank.

thanks so it is neon tetra disease ?have taken it out of tank let nature do its course now
also i have notice a small patch on a couple of black neon's that look a white cotton wool type spot is this down to this fish or is it something else
i think its some type of fungal infection but not too sure cannot get a pic of these white patches as these fish are a bit too fast

the neon tetra disease effects all fish it is just pron to killing neons it is also known for having no cure. You could try and see if it may be something else. try raising the temp in tank sometimes that will kill some parasites.

thanks what temp should i raise it to like you say there is realy no hope for this fish so i am going to let nature take its corse as it looks like neon tetra desies to me also you think its this also
but for my other fish what temp would you turn it up to
my light in the tank is on 4 about 14 hours a day is this too much or is it ok
as i am new to keeping tropical

Do you have a heater? If so just raise the temp 3-5 degrees and see if that helps.

yes i have a elite 100 watt sub heater one last question what should the ph level be as just checked mine and its 7.8 i think this is too high ?

It is good Most freshwater fish thrive when you have a pH level between 6.6 and 7.8. so any higher may be too basic. If you have money a good idea would be to have a quarintine tank just in case a fish gets sick you just put him in the extra tank. Something like a 5 gallon would be good. In my experiance I have found my qt tanks are really life savers. You can put the fish medicine in the tank without having to use it on your whole display tank, you can easily raise t he temp in a small qt tank also.
