Re: My Other Pets
We've got two dogs: a four year old mixed breed rescue named Quiet and a year and a half old black lab named Tonka, two cats: Pierce and Danni, a cockatiel named Sunny, a parakeet with no name, a lion head bunny named Max and a hamster named Meatball. Oh, and the biggest pets of all, our three daughters, McKelvie, 16, Nicole, 15 and Mattie, 9.

Re: My Other Pets
Before we started the aquarium we would spend all our money at PetSmart buying toys for our dog, Honey. She is a 3 year-old "Cocker-lier" (cocker-spaniel with Cavalier King Charles spaniel). She is such a delight! Everything she does makes us laugh and love her.
She's a little miffed these days, though, when we go to PetSmart and only come home with filters and fishfood and tank decorations! Lucky for her, we can't cuddle with the fish!!
Honeyglasses.JPGPlus the fish don't let you dress them up!
Honey bow.JPGPlus, it's soooooooo much easier to get a good picture of the dog than it is to get a good picture (in focus!) of the fish.

I know I should only include one picture of her.. you know, show some restraint. But I have to reassure her that we love her best... plus we have way too many cute pictures of her to only choose one..

Re: My Other Pets
I think she might have preferred to skip the sunflower headdress and yellow cape, but the rest of it she seems to enjoy. And the "sunflower shot" was for a good cause: I was trying to help my daughter understand about the earth's rotation and orbit around the sun, as well as the moon's orbit around the earth. So each of us dressed up as one of the "heavenly bodies" and we went through the motions to show her how it all worked simultaneously. We cast Honey as the sun partly because it was the only part that didn't have to spin and walk at the same time... but also because, truthfully, she's the center of our family's universe!  {Dressing up the dog kind of comes with the territory when you have a daughter!!  }

Re: My Other Pets
That's very funny. There is no way my dog or my cats would ever let me do that to them......
Pets are good for kids, but kids are good for animals. When my husband was young, with a brother and sister, all the cows were tame, no kickers, the cats all got lugged around, no wild ones.....it was good.
One of these days I will post pictures of the rest of my animals.

Re: My Other Pets
I look forward to it, ltl. Just curious: are any of your animals farm critters? In my early 20s, I always imagined I would live on a farm with some of my best friends, and have some nanny goats and a cow... Now in my much-older-than-20s, I live in the suburbs and only have a cow when my daughter doesn't clean her room!!! ( )

Re: My Other Pets
Yes, I live on a working dairy farm. When we were first married I always wanted to have chickens....I kind of still do but my husband is not so keen on the idea any more......he thinks I have enough pets. ;-)

Re: My Other Pets
You all have some serious animal collections... I mean that in a good way! To start, I have a tank of gold fish, platys and swordtails, mainly. Then I have a wonderful tabby 8 month old named Meta--the husband named him! He's a very good cat, almost like a dog! Speaking of dogs, I have a 6 year-old miniature schnauzer named Lexus! Both of my land-dwelling animals were rescues, by the way.
