OK... I have noticed there has been a little trouble now and again with posting and showing pictures here... let me give you the simplest and easiest way to do this that I know.
Use a free picture hosting website... the 2 I have been using are:
[url=http://imageshack.us/]ImageShack? - Hosting[/url]
[url=http://photobucket.com/]Free Image and Video Hosting - Photo Image Hosting Site : Photobucket.com[/url]
With those, when you upload a picture, it provides you with the correct tags for posting the pictures to a forum, or many other places, and all you have to do is copy and paste the text they provide, right into the forum message window... they work like a charm and are free.
If you use these (and I am sure there are other places as well... I have just been using those 2 for years without any troubles) you will not have any problems with your pictures showing up and always being available for all to see... unless of course the site where they are hosted goes down for some unknown reason... but that is rare.
The forum boards do not have the storage space or bandwidth to provide free picture hosting, and since there are so many free places out there already... it's a no-brainer.
Hope this helps everyone out!

Excellent info NortH! I had thought of tackling this issue myself but finding the time gets hard now and then. :rolleyes:
I would add that you should try to keep your picture sizes within reason. Large pictures are good if you are trying to show off a large shot, but remember that most peoples computer display settings are between 800x600 and 1024x768. Images that are too large will make people viewing them have to scroll left>right to read all of your post and the image. Crop the image down whenever and wherever possible or save it in a smaller resolution. Imaging programs that can do these things are everywhere and some come preloaded on most manufactured PCs.
And in addition, if you know what the url to the image you want to display is then you can use the Post Image Button ([IMG]http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e55/ahill3780/insertimage.gif[/IMG]) while typing your post to insert the image.
The steps would be:
[list=1][*]Reply to a thread or start your own.[*]Type in any text you want to appear before the picture and then hit enter twice to create a paragraph break between the text and the picture.[*]Click on the [IMG]http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e55/ahill3780/insertimage.gif[/IMG] button located above the dialog input area.[*]Enter the url to the picture you want to display. (ie. [url]http://www.website.com/yourpicture.jpg[/url])[*]Press Enter.[/list]
The button will automatically add the image tags to the url you entered.
To add multiple pictures just repeat steps 3 - 5 to add the tag for the next image/picture.
If you want your pictures to appear side by side then just place the image tags next to each other or seperated with a space.
If you want the picture to appear below the first then seperate the tags by pressing Enter and placing the tag for the second picture on a new line.
FYI:
You can post up to 4 pictures in one post. Smilies count as pictures as well. (This includes the Post Icons that appear next to the Title)

Aaron
