Got my first crocea clam on friday, so far he is doing very good. He seems to be ok on the sand, but I have read that they perfer rocks. I might move him onto a rock that can be moved because I have also read that once they attatch to a rock it is very hard to get them off.

Re: 135gal reef tank

Looks like I need to update this tank.
I had a horrible case of hair algae and got rid of all my corals, then tore the tank totally down and scrubbed every single rock in sight. After 8 hrs of cutting up my hands and tired of scrubbing I redecorated the tank with the thought I was going to keep it fowlr till I had the algae totally under control. Well since the cleaning the algae that was left totally died off or was taken care of by the hermits. I ended up getting several fish, which in turn did not make it. So now that the hair algae is gone and all my fish are still reef safe I am jumping back into keeping corals again, only this time I will be more picky about the coral I purchase and not get it just because it is on sale.
I joined OMAS my local Marine club and ended up getting to frag a couple of corals. The first one was a yellow toadstool which is now lost in the tank somwhere with the hopes it is getting light whever it may be. The second is a maroon colored moti plate coral, and the last was a LE cyphastrea decadia purple frag. I also purchased a lavender mushroom today.
I also still have some zoanthids left over as well.

Lavender mushroom

orange zoas

monti plate

Nice mountain structure. I see the trigger in your last two pictures. A friend of mine had a huma picasso in his fish only tank and it was a destructive beast. Does that trigger get along well in the community without devouring your clam? Also, what is that red fish you have in there? Stands out quite nice against the rock.

Re: 135gal reef tank

The clam is gone,it was part of the old corals I got rid of before the total tank reconstruction. The bluejaw trigger is suppose to be one of the most docile of the trigger species and generally doesnt bother corals. So far it hasnt done any damage to any of the corals I presently have.

Re: 135gal reef tank

Gary, next time you get algae like that....don't tear down your tank. I set up a little 30g to get me by until I get the 150g up. I had gone to NC to buy a house and left the tank to the care of my mom who knows nothing about fish. I left her detailed instructions on how to care for them...unfortunately, she didn't look at it and thought that she just had to feed them and that was it. She had feed the tank about 20 times more than what it should have been feed EACH DAY!!!!!!! I had INSANE hair algae in my tank and could not believe all the rotten food I found on the sand!!!!
I went out and got a yellow tang, scrubbed the rock with a toothbrush once everynight and did a 25% water change. A few days after, I did another 25% water change and made sure that I replaced the filter media with fresh each day. It only took me about a week to get it under control and now it's practically gone...only a few dime sized pieces here or there.
I'm sorry for your whole experience in the battle with hair algae....it was my first and it was a pain!!!!
On a better note..your tank looks great! Nice and clean.

Re: 135gal reef tank

You could not imagine how much I tried to get the algae out. I hand picked so much algae out of the tank it wasnt even funny. With it just growing back in very quickly.
Next time I will end up putting the coral in another tank till it is cleaned out.
This time I have bigger plans in the works. plus I didnt like many of the corals I had. The whole thing was foolish, but it gave me a clean slate to work on and will be done right this time.
I am actually going to test out the trigger and potters angel to see if they want to nip at some stonys. If not This will be the direction I go this time.

Re: 135gal reef tank

gm, I have been looking around liveaquaria for an ID on the red fish on the left that you have on the last of the full tank pics with no success. I am not sure, but I had a dream about it again and really want to find one too

Is it a red tang or in the same family?
