| Re: Shock's 55 Gallon Hair algae is getting alittle out of hand :| I think i might be over feeding alittle lol. starting to cut back tomorrow. And gonna start searching for a phos reactor. would a conister filter with some phos media work the same as a reactor? I have a a marineland canister 350 laying around, that i can try and fix pump doesnt seem to want to spin. its 5 years old prob needs new propellor and magnet and all. |

| Re: Shock's 55 Gallon It could work. But PO4 reactors are pretty cheap and offer more space for media.
Might I suggest going to an every other day feeding schedule. I thought that my fish would starve, but in reality I was severely overfeeding, the fish are fine and still fat with eating every other day.

| Re: Shock's 55 Gallon Wow. so its been 2 and a half months since my last post..... so i guess i have to update.
Well i did get a new "baby" clown. My lil looked lonely so i was at petco of all places and saw the cutest little clown so i picked it up for 19$ since they are 30$ at LFS for the same fish. He has been doing great. Lil and the newly named "Phil" are friends, dont know if they will ever mate or anything, but i guess they are a "pair" they rarely leave eachothers sides.
One xenia stalk got sucked up into my koralia. so i have little xenias growing everywhere now.
sadly, my favoite fish, Eva, my mandarin JUMPED out of the tank while i was on vacation. which sucks, she was so pretty. It sucked coming home and seeing the little thing on the carpet all shrivled up. she jumped out of a 3 inch gap between all my equipment... i guess something spooked her... dont know what, becasue no fish EVER get near her... but ya... that sucks
So if anyone has any recommendations on another fish... a bottom fish. that would be great. im thinking maybe i might try a green mandarin, or maybe another green spot mandarin.
Well thats about it. im still a broke college student, dont do much fish buying of fish or corals lol. i just let what i have go.
Hopefully I will be able to stop in more often, i havent been posting anywhere lately. |

| Re: Shock's 55 Gallon so ive been trying to post back, but for some reason past two posts have not been there. arg.
anyways. Rychek, I could see a blenny jumping (sorry for your loss), but common, a little 1 inch mandarin? It just blew me away. I didnt even THINK to look on the floor until about 3 hours after i got home and checking on the tank every 20 minutes to see if she would come out.
Im thinking about maybe a green mandarin this time... my spotted mandarin eva was gorgeous, but i think i need some change. hopefully whatever i get will eat brine within 2 weeks like Eva did.....
Rychek, does your mandarin move around the tank alot, for some reason, mine hung out on the same side, all day every day... well besides early morning before lights came on she would "hunt" but other than that, she stayed in same area.
or maybe even a yellow watchman goby with a pistol shrimp to be his friend.... lol i dont know what i want.

| Re: Shock's 55 Gallon My mandarin is all over the place. She hangs out behind the rockwork during the day, but I can see her moving around back there.
I think young mandarins are more willing to eat frozen food than older mandarins. This is totally anecdotal, but my first mandarin was rather large and it took a few weeks to get him onto frozen brine. My new mandarin is maybe 2" while stretching and she ate frozen brine without any trouble at all.
Anyway, I like the greens better than the spotted, but I do like the look of the spotted too. I was sorely tempted to get a spotted this time, but the green was available when I was ready to purchase. |

| Re: Shock's 55 Gallon well, just a little update, last night i noticed steven (my cleaner shrimp) was going to molt that night, and sure enough he did, but somebody got ahold of him while his shell was hardening because he is nowhere to be found, and i found part oh is shell in the power head, which was his unharden shell because it was flexible... so im not sure who did it. Im guessing either my peppermint shrimp, or maybe even the clowns. but everyone else hides as soon as the lights go out. so im not sure. oh well |

| Re: Shock's 55 Gallon Bummer.... Sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my cleaner shrimp while I was on vacation. Comparitively speaking, cleaner shrimp aren't that expensive, but when you consider how much you pay for the size of the shrimp, it's almost painful. |
