Hmm... that does look about right. I'll have to PM the guy I got it from for confirmation. Thanks for the research/ID help Brad!

You were right Brad. I just heard back from my frag donor and he said it is purple Montipora Digitata.

Holy Cow! I've heard that Xenia grows like a weed, but I never thought it was an understatement! My Xenia stalks have been splitting like crazy over the last week. Now if I could just get my other corals to grow like that....

The Green Star Polyps have been growing like crazy as well. I've got three very small frags of it and the middle sized frag has tripled (if not quadrupled) the number of heads on it in the last three weeks.

My purple digi and the orange monti are showing signs of growth as well, albeit at a much slower rate.

The Zoas and Palys are growing as well, though it's harder to identify new polyps with them. I'll post pics once I get some worth sharing. Fish tank photography is harder than it sounds/looks.

An a not-so-related note, my Coralife dual timer surge protector stopped "timing" earlier this week. First the moonlight timer stopped switching then the main light timer quit as well. The dials spin, the switches still switch, but the current in the outlets never changes. So, figuring I had nothing to lose, I took the whole thing apart. After fighting with the timer assemblies for a while (they aren't very well structured inside IMO), I managed to get them both back together, and, lo and behold, they both started working again! I didn't really do anything to them, other than restack the levers inside, but it seems to have done the trick. Two days have gone by and they are both working still.

Re: Fist SW Upgrade: 55 to 90 gals

Things have pretty much stayed the same with my tank. I added a small frag (3 polyps) of Purple People Eaters (pics will appear once they have settled and opened completely) today and I'm working on a few purple mushroom frags.

I've had a rash of deaths lately as well. First my Scissortail jumped. Then, a few days later, my cleaner shrimp keeled over. The next day my emerald crab gave up the ghost. Then, two days later, my last Trochus snail committed suicide on the eggcrate over my overflow.

On a happier note, my little mandarin is fat as a pig.

The purple mushroom frags are doing well. The PPEs are open so I'll be taking pics soon.

"Soon" has taken on a slightly longer definition than I had anticipated, but here is a quick pic of the PPEs:

Very Nice Rychek! They are currently on my wish list. Those and Nuclear Greens.

Re: Fist SW Upgrade: 55 to 90 gals

I feel like I'm slacking when it comes to keeping things updated. I've been taking full advantage of my local reef club's frag donation/sponsorship program and have received a red mushroom (I'll post pics once I've taken a few). I'm waiting on getting some Xmas Zoas, but I think it'll be a while before they are ready.

I've added a jump screen to the back of my canopy to prevent further suicides (RIP Scissortail Dartfish). While I had my canopy off, I noticed some funny patterns on my T5 reflectors. I removed them for a closer look and realised the problem: the plastic coating I thought should've been there when I first got them was in fact there (I double checked both of them before I installed them and I was sure there wasn't any plastic on them). I then spent a few days scraping plastic off with my fingernails (nothing else I tried worked). It sucked, but at least it was only two of the four reflectors. When the last two arrive next month, I'll be sure to remove the plastic BEFORE I install them.

Updates:

These are my brown paly's that my crab nearly consumed. I managed to find/salvage two tiny polyp buds after the crab finished his meal and now they have grown and reproduced to their current state. These are my biggest coral triumph!

You can see my Purple Digi in the background of that pic. It has completely browned out. Any pointers on how to get it to turn purple again?

Re: Fist SW Upgrade: 55 to 90 gals

Hey great thread Rychek, sounds like your club is working good for you. I have yet to keep a digi happy. I have them grow like mad for about 6 mnhts and then brown out or just lose color. Some come back, but never the same as when I recieved them. Mine tend to do better in my tank at about halfway down and with strong current. They definitly dont like strong lighting in any of my tanks, especially the t-5's.
What part of Texas do you live in? There is going to be a coral convention in Dallas next weekend called Next Wave. I went last year and it was ok, this year they have a better venue and much better speakers. Not to mention the vendors will be much better as well. If you are interested I can get the info for you.

Re: Fist SW Upgrade: 55 to 90 gals

Thanks for the info gm333. I'm in San Antonio. Unfortunately Dallas is a bit out of my travel radius.

My local reef club is awesome. The digi came from a club member's 280ish gal tank with MH to my 90 gal with T5s and it slowly browned out. I get great polyp extension, but little growth; probably due to my less than ideal calcium levels. That's what I get for accepting a free frag that I wasn't quite setup to care for. Next on my list: calcium supplements.
