Re: The start of my new 75G Reef

Well here are some pics of my finished mock GM sump/fuge:

I went with a 8''x12'' Fuge area, a 10''x12'' skimmer area, and then a 8''x12''.

I now need a return pump and then I can get the plumbing. I might need some help with that in a week or so Gary, plumbing that is, if you dont mind.

I might just go with a submersible pump instead, possibly an Oceanrunner or Quiet One and forget about drilling the 1'' bulkhead, out of pure laziness....

I also received my CPR CS90 overflow and the Aqua Lifter.

Just about there.....

Re: The start of my new 75G Reef

Not a problem with the help in plumbing.
Dont take this the wrong way and yes I know it will be under the tank, but gee white?
Definitly not pretty, but hey no ones going to see it anyhow. Good job. Now come over and do my complicated 10 gal refugium(but make it clear slicone).
My refugium is going to be a pain in the rear on my 15 nano. I have to make room for a 5" nano remora down there somewhere, and perferably not in the refugium area.

Re: The start of my new 75G Reef

I know white is a bit ''tacky'', but once again the laziness factor was in full effect. White is what I had, and I would of had run out to get clear, we all know how that went!

A 10g is gonna be tight moving inside it to caulk everything in. Good Luck!

Re: The start of my new 75G Reef

So heres the plan, cpr overflow 1'' bulkhead(600gph) and Quiet One 3000(780gph)(1'' inlet/1''outlet) return pump. I figure with a little over 4ft of head pressure the return pump should not be too much for the overflow.

I need a plumbing list, look over it and add anything if you feel I need it or I have too much. The good thing is I dont have to pay for anything, the plumbers said they will get me anything I need. I help them out at work, since I work for a builder, the things we would throw away I give them. You would be amazed at what we toss out!

Anyways. List:

10ft 1'' Pvc Schedule 40
10ft 1/2'' PVC schedule 40
1- 1/2'' Union
2- 1'' Union
2- 1'' Ball valves
4- 1'' 90s
4- 1'' 45s
2- 1'' Ts
1- 1'' T -> 2- 1/2'' oulets(do they make this fitting?)
4- 1/2'' 90s
4- 1/2'' 45s

Understand all that? hahah

Re: The start of my new 75G Reef

1/2" ball valve just in case the flow is too much. I used a mag 7 with the same overflow and found I wanted to slow the flow down a little more. Other than that it sounds good.

I am pretty sure they make this fitting, if not there are ways to reduce the outlet you need.

Re: The start of my new 75G Reef

After further review of pumps, Im going to go with the Mag 7, just because it is smaller in height than the quiet ones. I only made my last baffle 5 1/2'' high going to the return chamber. The mag 7 is only 4'' tall vs the quiet one 5'' tall. I could always add another bigger baffle in place if the return chamber doesnt get enough flow, depth wise. What do you think?

I filled up the sump tonight and so far so good, no leaks from any chamber. It holds about 10-11 gallons. It should be more than enough free space in case of a power outage and the tank drains until the overflow breaks syphon.

I talked to the plumbers today and they said they cant help me out, they only use bigger pipe and dont really use smaller piping. They did however give me a huge can of PVC primer and glue.

So.... I went to Home Depot and priced everything, I came up with about $40-45 for all the pipe and fittings.

Now... I just need some extra cash....

Heres a pic of the sump filled:

Re: The start of my new 75G Reef

I have also been doing a ton of reading of reviews of skimmers and basic information. Its a toss up between three models. An Aqua C EV 120, an ASM G-1, or an Euro Reef RS 80. I have also been reading good things about the Octopus line of skimmers, the same makers of Octopus used to be the makers of ASM skimmers. Im really torn with what to get. I have a budget of about $300, I want the best BANG for my buck here.

Your thoughts fellow reefers???

Re: The start of my new 75G Reef

If its in your budget get the euro reef. The Asm is a knock-off and is made with thinner materials. But the Asm does work great. I would stray from the Aqua-c if you are looking at these other 2. Mine works good, but I hate the venturi valve on it. I am constantly having to dig the cone shaped shells out of it. I couldnt tell you on the Octopus.
