A Few plant q's

Ive got a few questions on planted tanks. Some are pretty basic but ive never really had more than 3 small plants at a time.
1. How to you vac the gravel? Uproot all the plants and then put them back in? Or do you not do it at all?

2. How do you plant christmas moss? tie it to decorations or driftwood etc. How would I get it to grow on top of the gravel.

3. How do you plant all the other plants like bulbs an rooted plants? Just shove them in the gravel?
Thanks!

Re: A Few plant q's

i am just takeing a wild guess here so take it witha grain of salt. i believe that plants feed off fish waste some what. so vacumming around them is not totally needed. i just bought 2 rooted plants and just stuck them in the gravel so i hope thats what you do lol. and the christmas moss could be tied to decorations or decos till they attach them selves. i would jsut fishing line or something like that. hope that helps somewhat. i'm just guessing from what i read in the forums. someone who knows better will jump in and correct me if i'm wrong good luck with the plants

If you are careful you can vacuum around the base of the plant to remove debris from the surface. You can vacuum the unplanted gravel as usual.

Part of the maintenance required for a planted tank is to occasionally up root the plants, trim dead roots, prune the plant, vacuum the site, and replant the plant. I do this maybe twice a year, or whenever the whim gets me to move plants around.

Yes...Tie it to driftwood, rocks, decorations etc. I would use a cotton thread of similar color. The thread will eventually dissolve.

Christmas Moss is not recommended for a carpet plant. It is a mlum and debris magnet. It will quickly become clogged with debris and nurture algae.

Well yes...assuming you have a plant friendly substrate. I just protect the roots with my fingers and gently swipe them into the gravel.

Hope that helps,

Regards,
Jay

What would be a good carpet plant? And what do you consider a "Plant friendly substrate"?

Thanks for your help.
