Wisteria

My friend weeded out one of her tanks and mailed me a bunch of wisteria-I have placed it in a cycling 29 gal. which will house my honduran red points. can anyone tell me what type of lighting it requires and maybe a tidbit of anything else you plant knowledgable people might consider pertinent?
Thanks muchly!
Fern

Re: Wisteria

If it is ?hygrowphila difformis? then it can be planted or left to float. Usually needs med/high lighting if planted but can also do well in lower light but tends to be a bit leggy. If left to float it should do pretty well in almost any light.

Re: Wisteria

I don't mean to be contrary, but Wisteria actually does really well in low lighting conditions also. I didn't think it would take in my 20g tall tank which has a measely .75 watts per gallon, but it's growing like the weed that it is! It is true that it can be floated or planted though. My advice is to just stick the stems in your substrate and see what happens. If you see dying leaves (they'll be obvious because they'll be brownish) pull them out so your ammonia doesnt get to high. I'm newish it planted tanks, but i've found Wisteria very easy to grow. If a piece of leaf gets torn off and you let it floatt, it will be growing it's own fresh set of roots in a matter of days and will grow. As it grows you can pluck off parts of the plant and stick the stems elsewhere. Good luck!
