Re: Im thinking about planted

It wasn't me, I deny all knowledge and I can prove I wasn?t any where near where I said I was LOL.

Welcome to the world of planted tanks the more the merrier.
Judge: a well planted discus tank can be stunning and so easy if all is done correctly.
Unfortunately keeping a planted tank has had many a bad view over the years with the likes of algae etc. and now days all the hipe about dosing etc. all of which is misinterpreted by the new comer and many are put off by all this. Yes there are some extra things that have to be done with a planted tank but nothing major. As with a normal fish only tank keep up with the water changes and stats and they are no harder to do.

Re: Im thinking about planted

3 of the 4 little plants have rooted and seem to be growing. I had 4 till the loach uprooted up and decided it was supper. Hes not bothering the other 3.

Thanks to the goverment, I bought another 55 gal tank and stand, as well as new bedspread and drapes. The tank is not cycling as fast as the others did, but thats ok, Im much more patient this time around.

Plants were all sold out today at LFS, or so they said, so next week, I will get a couple more and see what happens.

tx again for all the info.

Wink Re: Im thinking about planted

ok since this one is already near the top I am gonna ask my 2 cents rather than try to start a new post.
New to the whole tank thing in general but I knew I wanted real plants (even without reading much on them) the plastic ones tend to look uuummm lets see what is the word? Phony...... so I have plants in this new tank of mine. Some of which are already starting to grip and grab the substrate ( found out when I tried to swap 2 because one seems to be more delicate in the leaves and was getting blown apart by the airstone near it.) I did notice 2 of the plants have some iffy leaves and I have seen mention of trimming how should I do this is it a matter of a clean pair of scissors and wet elbows? also I have a pic of the tank minus fish below any clue if this would be high or low. And just what exactly is dosing?
Again I am adding these to someone else's thread but I think they are somewhat in line with where this thread might have ended up going. I will keep my eye out for a response here. But I will warn you if I dont see one in a few days I am likely to start a thread and try again.
You are all great and I am glad I came across this site while cruising the net during lunch and dreaming about the tank I want. Thank you all I promise to di my part to help make this site reach the top of the list. Or at least not have one I cant read or understand ahead of it. ( I think the #1 spot cheats I don't see any kind of forum there and they want to talk about cats and dogs) wink wink

Hey nyrmel...

I would suggest that you do start a new thread. The topic of plants and planted tanks can fill books. I would start by exploring where you want to go with plants as different strategies and management routines are necessary for various types of tanks.

It's not difficult, but there are fundamentals that need to be understood and applied.

Do read in the planted tank sub forum and use the search engine.

Yes. Plant care is a hands on sport.

Look forward to chatting with you

Jay
