Need good plant suggestions,

If you plant experts could give me the names of a few plants that somewhat meet my needs that would be great. 1 I need a plant that roots, or doesn't uproot easily. 2. I need one that fish won't completely consume in less than a week.3. I need one taht is pretty hardy, and doesn't need co2.
thanks.

Re: Need good plant suggestions,

Now IM no plant expert but Ive tried several plants and the only ones that have all survived is java fern. It is very hardy doesnt require any special light, co2, or even fertilizer, but if you do add fertilizer Ive heard it grows like crazy. The thing is that it cant be buried in substrate it has to be fixed to rocks, driftwood, or decor with fishing line and then the roots will attach themselves. Kinda cool cause you can move them around if you need to. Also they reproduce in a cool way by growing little daughter plants on the edge of its leaves and when they get big enough you can peel them off and attach them to something else. I started with 2 plants about 3 months ago and now I have a nicely planted tank.

Re: Need good plant suggestions,

Java Fern is a good choice, you might also want to look at plants in the Anubias family. Anubias (Nana) is very popular. Anubias grow from rhizomes so it is not necessary to plant them in a substrate. They are so hearty folks refer to them as a live "plastic" plant.

Just some clarification...all plants require Carbon, they are 60% carbon in mass. Indoor aquariums usually contain 4-5 ppm of CO2 dissolved in them do to natural gas exchange, the action of heterotrophic bacteria, and fish. As long as the tank is lightly planted, low light, the plants will get enough CO2. If they are struggling, there are liquid additives that will help.

Regards,
Jay

Re: Need good plant suggestions,

Onion plants are somewhat bulky and mine hasn't been uprooted one time since I've had it.

They have a big bulb you plant and mine has stayed very healthy despite 2 plecostomus on the leafs and other fish nipping at it.

I like the Fanwort but I've had problems keeping it in the substrate. My solution will be to buy some of the little metal things they use to hold it together at the store. When I first got the plant, it stayed together great, but now that is has tripled in size. it outgrew the metal band and I have it planted in different places. I becomes uprooted by my big pleco (6 inches) quite a bit w/o the metal holding it down some.
