Rusty java fern

I know this question was asked before by Squall but im pretty sure it went unanswered....I too have rusty color patches that are rough and pretty much dead on my java fern that is identical to the pictures Squall posted on the thread..... what is this?? Is this a normal occurrence? The best I can come up with is that it might be algae left on the leaves too long or maybe it is caused by the baby plants that sprout from the leaves. Any other ideas???

Re: Rusty java fern

Just in case anyone else has had this problem I found out that it was because I was burying the roots in the substrate and not fixing them to decor or rocks and they were not getting enough nutrients from the water. The roots need good circulating water.
