P- Daddy

PH: 7.2
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 5.0ppm
dKH: 2
dGH: 17

30 Gallon
No CO2 Injection
2 Watts per gallon 8 hours, Moderate Planting <- Bulking up on stems

First Draft Target Specs:

NO3 20 ppm You have 5 to start you need 15 to get to your target
PO4 1 ppm
K 20 ppm From the KCL you got at the grocery store.

Because this is a low light non CO2 injected tank IMO you can dose at the beginning of the week after your 50% water change. Dose to bring your levels to target.

dKH 5 add some baking soda to get your dKH up a tad.

Excel every day according to bottle dosing instructions.

Flourish weekly according to bottle instructions.

Test mid week and at weeks end to get an idea of uptake. DO NOT let the NO3 or PO4 drop below 1/2 the target amount. Do your weekly 50% water change, test, and dose to target. You will eventually get familiar with the needs and routine. We need to stay on the program for two weeks and then reevaluate.

Hey Roxiesmom,

Good for you, I'm glad everything is going in the right direction.

You might try using a jelly jar or something like it with the lettuce inside, it is easier to pull out.

Re: Crash Course Nutrients and Algae 101

Jay,

I could not have done it without you!

Jelly jar it is... just noticed that even though I thoroughly rinsed the new hornwart, got some trumpet snails. Should I have soaked in saltwater before putting in my tank?

I'll be posting my post-WC readings later this evening. Just finished the 2 smaller tanks wc's and readings.

Thanks again!
Teresa

Sounds great, tomorrow is my water change day so I will get busy!

Just one quick question, how do I monitor the uptake of PO4? I don't have a test kit?

P-Daddy...

I would get one although I do not use mine much anymore. If your PO4 is a little high, it really does not matter dose as if there is 0 in the tank.

Dosing phosphate does not induce algae in a planted tank. Dosing phosphate does not induce algae in a planted tank. Dosing phosphate does not induce algae in a planted tank. Dosing phosphate does not induce algae in a planted tank.

Roxiesmom...you really need to invest in two Clown Loaches.

This thread is getting to be 5 pages long. I am going to close it and start a new thread "Nutrients and Algae Book 2".

Look for us there
