Hey all, looking to start my first tank, and its going to be a planted 10 gallon tank. Just had a few queick questinos.

When doing a planted, does the fishlesss cycling process change at all?

also can the plants inside the tank cause a negative reaction ito my fish? (looking to do an oriental theme with bamboo etc)

finally if my tank is located in a place where light may find it easily, (near a window with afull days of semi full lsun) would a lamp be needed?

Oh and where would i purchase said lamp if needed?

Only if the plant mass is healthy and substantial <- read that substantial.

NO.

If by bamboo, you mean the plant they are selling in big box stores as "lucky Bamboo" "Bamboo" etc. it is not Bamboo, it is called Dracnea (sp). It IS NOT an aquatic plant. If you plant it submerged it will rot and die in a short while.

Dracnea is a low light plant that likes to have it's feet wet, but needs to have its leaves above the water.

Placing a start up tank near a window is an algae trainwreck waiting to happen.

Alright, so back to the drawing board on location. So if I were to put my tank in a less-light location, what kind of lamp would I need, and where could I look into purchasing?
