| Re: Plant Suggestions? I have 3 honey gouramis. I replaced 3 that I had that died. They were completely docile and my SAE chased them around like a maniac, causing them to stress and eventually die. I'm a little upset because when I bought the new gouramis I was not watching the store clerk bag them and he gave me one that was already sick. It's kind of a pain to get to the store so I haven't gone back or called them about it. I don't know why. I should.
I really like the ottos. They are a lot of fun to watch.

| Re: Plant Suggestions? He has one bad eye and he is staying in one place at the top right of the tank.
If I keep the light off for a longer period of time won't this have an adverse effect on the plants, particularly the new ones I have just installed?

| Re: Plant Suggestions? It would not hurt them to turn the lights off for a day or so (cloudy days). Then you could safely drop it down to six hours for several days to allow the fish to heal. you can also get some kind of floating plant, real or plastic, that he can hide under.
Does it look like it is a fresh wound or one that is healing (flesh showing or starting to look scarred). Keep your water really clean. Is he eating?.....if not get a product like garlic extreme (there are others) and put a drop or two in according to instructions to help stimulate his appetite....he needs the nourishment to fight infection.
Watch closely.
If your water parameters are good, most fish will heal without problems but secondary infections and problems can occur. The possibility exists that the fish had popeye (due to bad water conditions at the store) in which case they can lose their eye. There are many one eyed fish out there......

| Re: Plant Suggestions? It is funny that that you say that, because my wife got a very good look at the little guy and he is indeed missing an eye. So Aside that, he seems to be doing fairly well actually. He is moving around fine. He's been hiding a bit in the plants and also up in the corner where no one messes with him. I think he will be ok, but I'm not sure if he is getting the food. I watched this morning while feeding and he wasn't going after the food like the others. It is hard to tell if it's due to lack of appetite or just that he can't see well with one eye.
I will keep on monitoring.
Thanks for the help.
