Hello everyone, i have just converted my 75g oscar tank into a community tank so now i am finally able to put some plants and decorations in it. Being as i have never done this before, i would like to know about the placements of plants. I have enough lighting and use a gravel floor, i am just curious if there is certain spots in the tank that plants belong....in the back, along the sides, behind or in front of rocks and so on. As you can tell, i am not very artistic with this stuff lol. I want to make the tank look alive, i dont want to just buy plants and throw them in there. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I am going to keep reading up in the plant section as i am new to this and pick some things up about caring for the plants.

Hey Stogyman..welcome to the forum

I think you will find that aquascaping with plants is very much an individual thing. What really matters is what pleases you, and with plants you can change the appearance of the tank whenever you want. The obvious rules of thumb are taller in the back and shorter in the front. Centerpiece plants or driftwood should not be dead center and try to avoid symmetrical. I'm sure others will be along with their experience.

There is a ton of good information in the forum...good for you and your motivation to do some reading.

I just found this incredible video of the Nature Aquarium Gallery in Niigata Japan displaying the work of Takashi Amano it features planted tanks from nano size to huge! (Ignore the saltwater tank from about 1:30-2:10)
