I am curious to find out what salt other addicts use and why. I was properly put in my place at the lfs recently by a very intelligent young man who informed me that they did not carry Oceanic brand because none of the experts used/recommended it and it was too expensive. Ok, so now that I have been corrected by the intelligentsia what do ya'll use. I have tried Instant Ocean..both times (first and last), and I told the young man I would not buy it, that's when he set me straight. I feel so much better now. OCeanic IMVHO always mixes up the same, no guessing on sg(as with another brand I better not mention), and I have never had any sediment residue in the bottom of my mixing tub. I would like to hear some other experiences and what has worked for you, please. Thanks.

Hey Judge,

Salt is more of a preference IMO. I used Instant Ocean for awhile until I switched over to a full blown reef setup. IO is low in calcium. I could never get it buffered to appropriate levels. I since then switched to Coralife and love it. My calcium is always right on and I only have to buffer alkalinity a bit. It will hold around 2.5, which is natural seawater levels, I just buffer it up to 3.0-3.5. Actually there was a study done on all the different brands and Coralife came out in good shape compared to some of the higher grade salts like oceanic and tropic marin.
