Testing Kits

One more question (for today anyway)! As far as testing kits go, is there a difference in quality from brand to brand? I understand that different kits test for different things (as in the parameters tested for saltwater, reef, freshwater), but does it really matter which brand I buy? The local fishstore has one brand and they were not very insightful!! Thanks, once again, for any input you have to share!

I would think....and I am not the expert...that any brand would be ok. However, if I am getting some weird results from one test kit, I will go buy another to check it against. If you are really worried, I would go with the kits that are most well known or that a LFS with a lot of tanks would use for themselves.

If I were you I would stay away from the strips... they aren't that accurate. The liquid test kits are better. All the other ones are too expensive unless you are going to be doing a reef tank.

I have been using the Aquarium pharmaceuticals master test kit for saltwater (high pH). My tap water is high in pH so it works out fine for me in both tanks. I also use the test strips (from Mandrel I thin) to get a quick easy reading. I really have not noticed a huge difference in the results personally but many people report the liquid is more accurate.
