| 90 gallon FOWLR? What would I need to set up a 90g FOWLR?
How much live sand?
How much live rock?
I want to use a canister filter (no sumps... yet)
What about water movement?
Protein Skimmer?
Powerheads?
UV Synthizier (sp)?
Am I missing anything?

| Re: 90 gallon FOWLR? Here's what I've got in my 90g fowlr:
Live sand: 240 lbs- gives me an average depth of about 5"
Live rock: 130 lbs- can get any amount from 90 lbs to 180 lbs, more the better
Filter: HOB whisper 60- I leave it empty except run carbon 1 week out of every month
Powerheads/water movement: I have 2 powerheads in each back corner (300 gph each)
Protein skimmer: AquaC remora pro with mag 3 pump
UV sterilizer: none
Heaters: 2 300w Visitherm stealth heaters
Lighting: Current USA Orbit extreme 260w PC

| Re: 90 gallon FOWLR? What about this RO DI or something like that water?
How does that work?
Would I do PWC's with just regular tap water or do I need one of these units?

| Re: 90 gallon FOWLR? I bought an RO/DI unit for about $130 from the filterguys.biz. I just screw it into the sink, or you can plumb in it somehow.
It makes the purest water possible, I myself wouldn't go any other route.

| Re: 90 gallon FOWLR? If you are planning on a FOWLER, I would skip the cannister filter all together and start planning on a sump. The sump will allow you to use a much better skimmer, something along the line of a ASM G2 would be a great way to go, but is for in sump only. The Remora C that was mentioned is IMO the best hang on you can buy, but it still does not preofrm to the level of a decent in sump skimmer.
You can set up a home made sump under your tank using a used 20 gal. tank, plexi panels from a home improvement store, hang on over flow, return pump and all needed plumbing for little more than a cannister and there are many advanteages, better skimmer can be udes, adds water volume, keep things like heaters out of the display and a safe place for pods to populate are just a few.
I keep 1 1/2 - 2 lbs LR per gallon and a 2-4" deep sand bed is a great start, also dont forget the most important thing....
PATIENCE!

| Re: 90 gallon FOWLR? I see.... This seems like it's going to be very expencive lol
Is the biological filitration done by the LR and LS?
If I go with a sump what kind of pump should I use?
Anyone have pics of their tanks and set ups?

| Re: 90 gallon FOWLR? Yes, the LR and LS will handle all of your bio filtration and the skimmer will take care of most of the rest. Water changes will round it off and you will have a great system.
Here are some pics of different systems I have either have or are running, but keep in mind, most of my systems are more elaborate than what you would need for a basic sump. http://s170.photobucket.com/albums/u...wn1_2007/sump/
For your tank, I would use a Quiet One 4000 pump. I have had great luck with their pumps, they run cooler than most and are much quieter than Mag pumps that I have had.

| Re: 90 gallon FOWLR? Actually it is 4, 1 for a fuge, 1 for sump, 1 for the skimmer and 1 for top off water just because I had a extra tank and some PVC laying around.

| Re: 90 gallon FOWLR? That looks way to confusing for me. I'm only 17 and I drive a truck that gets 8 MPG so I don't have that much $ to dedicate to a large tank. (I just realized this)
What about setting up a 10g salt tank?
What would I need for that?
