Oh yeah... I got the salt level tester also.....
Before I exchanged the equipment... got water, salt, and live sand... thing is i need more salt and sand, lol... |
Ok, great filter to use..... But you need to make sure like once a month or so rinse the bio wheel in clean saltwater, it gets a lot of algee build up.
Now do you plan on trying some corals or just going with fish or fish and rock?
I would really recommend at leased going with the Live Rock. For lighting it depends on what you plan on keeping....
If you plan to have corals you will need much better lighting so you might as well buy it to begin with.
If you are just having fish and Live rock you could just buy a florescent strip thought I recommend you buy 2 long enough to cover your tank, and go with a reef sun and an ocean sun bulbs from zoo med. In my opinion they look very good together, a pretty blue water color, if you are going to go with florescent.
If you want coral you are going to spend a lot more... You have lots of options though. T-5, Power Compacts, or even Metal Halide.
Also if you buy more sand definatly go with live sand....
There are a couple of different options for the type of Live rock you can choose from. It will help your tank cycle by adding it and it gives your fish some hiding places and really adds to the tank. Once you get your tank all put together and you have your light and your temerature is stable at roughly 76-78* you can add you live rock.
Also I really recomend buying a light timer, they are really great to have! Keeps you tank on a schedual and you do not have to remember to turn you lights off and on!
When you are putting your tank together 1 thing I figured out that worked pretty good is to put in 1/2 a tank of saltwater then add your sand (Dry and Live Sand) since the water level will rise then add the rest of the salt water to fill it up.
Also I recomend checking your local phone book and checking out some of your local saltwater fish stores. They can be great help for advice and bring them a water sample most will check it for you and let you know what areas you need to work on and what you can do to improve. Often they sell premixed saltwater which is nice to have when you are first setting up your tank so you do not have to me with trying to mi 29 gallons of water. Never buy a saltwater or any fish for that matter from any chain stores ( petco, petsmart....). The fish are always sick and bring nothing but trouble. the staff is generally not knowledgable about saltwater either. A saltwater or fish only store can become your favroite place very quickly! They are not just after your money...In most cases!
Hope some of this advice helps you, and good luck
Keep asking questions no matter how stupid you think they might be we are all here to learn from each other and someone will always answer your question for you!
