| Hard to tell by description. Does it look like plant roots growing out of the rock?
You're going to see a lot of weird stuff on LR. Most of it is harmless, and not all rock will have the same growths on it. Each tank will be different in most cases.
The algae bloom is likely due to the added nutrients leaching out of the rock. That's fine, and to be fully expected in a new tank. You'll just have to ride it out.
My tank is over a year old (with change to spare) and I still have algae spots every once in a while. My tank is nearing maturity more and more as I grow more experienced. My tank has stabilized itself far enough that I do not see full-system blooms though, usually mostly on the sandbed.
