New Arrival = Gold Flake Angel Sick

Greetings,

New to this forum but have been keeping SW since the early 1970's. Recently got (48 hours ago) a 5 cm goldflake from Hawaii (collected in Soloman Islands) and picked up at airport. Usual slow acclimation but the fish continues to breath rapidly on it's side with occasional swimming the appears very uncoordinated.

Water is from my very established reef with near perfect parameters. Temp 80. Kept in a 20 gal hospital tank. I almost never use meds and haven't lost a marine fish in years. I broke down and added a "quick IK cure".
No external signs of disease or scratching. Eyes perfect. Fins perfect. Any experienced reefers out there that can help.

Do you know what method was used to catch the fish, and what transport conditions it had to endure? If it was caught with cyanide then that would explain things, and it is not likely that he will live very long in any case.

If you suspect Ich then I would suggest a hyposalinity treatment, and failing that, a copper treatment.

Its a hard transition for any fish to make, going from the open ocean to the small confines of the home aquarium. Its possible he may still be reeling from the stress of capture and transport.

I am not familiar with the name Gold Flake. Could you be referring to the Golden Angel (Centropyge Aurantia)?

GoldFlake is still alive. Doubt this is a cyanide caught fish (Solomon Islands). Still in quarantine tank. Respiratory rate has slowed somewhat. I tried to force feed live brine shrimp with a syringe but regurgitated.
