| okay, so I just read redinator's last post and I have to say , I did the same thing. I started witha seaclone model, the 150 instead of the 100, (I have a 100 gal reef setup). I installed this product approx 2-3 mos after adding my first livestock. It took about a week or so before it started to produce this foam that I wanted. however I felt like there was some that were not outrageously expensive like some of the ones our there, but would still work better than the seaclone. I did not want one that was too powerful so that it wouldn't take all of the nutrients out of the water (which your skimmer will remove as well as all of the dissolved waste). I did some research and ended with the smaller of the 2 Prizm hangon skimmers that or on the market (rated for up to 100 gal). I have to say, not only is it more compact, but it is quieter, and seems to be working very well, but not overkilling its extraction amount. A reef tank cannot have completely pure water in my opinion. your filter feeders need to have a good amount of nutrients in the water to feed and survive. I feel that after you've had your prizm skimmer you will be very happy with the overall water quality (given you complete other maintenance steps on a regular basis as well), and you will see better results overall. This whole reef thing is not an exact science, but more of a delicate balance. all in all I am behind you 100 percent on replacing your seaclone with the prizm and also feel that skimmers are much better to have than not to have. After you've seen and smell what they remove, you'll never want to be without one. Much luck and success in this wonderful hobby, Neal in Grover Beach, CA |
