| Metal hylide light Hey gang....
Anyone ever make a metal hylide for the tank from scratch. I am not talking about the light itself, but all the accessories...like transformer and light holder and such. I need part numbers and specifications if anyone has any info. Thanks.

| Any preferences on manufacturer for a metal halide light? I have decided to buy the ballast, stand, and light seperately. Gonna cost me $$ vs $$$$. Point is, anyone have any experience with a bulb they didn't like? Thanks!

| The bulbs are much the same depending on what type and wattage you get. Ushio bulbs are highly spoken of and are VERY good bulbs but they come at a higher price.
As far as the parts go you will need a Ballast, the bulb that goes with the ballast, and a reflector. No transformers or anything else is needed.
A trusted name in the industry is Icecap when it comes to retrofitting your own lighting system. Do a quick search on Icecap Ballasts and you should be able to find everything you need.

| On a technical note Aaron, a ballast and a transformer are one in the same.

| PS....I ended up purchasing 2 175watt 10000k rating with reflectors and transformer for $150 online. We shall see. I already have two acitinic blues for asthetics.

| Single....I thought about going HQI....but I know single technology. Sometimes it is just good to stick with what you know.

| Indeed. And that goes double when electricity is involved!
