| You will need to purchase a good master saltwater kit, Aquarium Pharmaceuticals has a good kit with nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, ph, and alkalinity. As far as chemicals you will need a good buffer, I reccomend kent superbuffer, it will bring your ph and alk up at the same time. |

| Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new tank!
I also went with the master test kit rather than buying all of the test seperately. I feel that it is well worth the money on a good test kit for a saltwater tank (or any other really) so keep in mind that 'you get what you pay for' in most cases. I really prefer the liquid test kits as well since some of the test strips can be spoiled easily if not stored exactly right. In my test kit, I most often use the Ammonia, Nitrite, nitrate, Ph (high range), Phosphate and calcium tests. My kit also has a Gh and Kh test and an Iron (free and non-free) one as well. Since I use them a lot, I plan to just buy the single test kits to replace the ones I have used up but even after almost 5 months now, I havent had to replace any so they do last a long time. |

| How do you find the accuracy of the iron test kit, and does it say anything in the directions if it would work in a freshwater tank. I have had no confidence in iron tests, I rely on visual observation of plants to determine if I need to dose Iron.
Thanks

| Your local petsmart store should have "saltwater master test kits" and "reef master kits" I think its 30-43$ depending on which one you get.
