| SW Disaster Well I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. I have not had any major problems or upsets since I started this SW 2+ years ago. ICH, need I say more. After the upgrade I waited for a while to allow things to settle. All conditions were good and stable. So I purchased a Coral Beauty. I bought from someone that I have purchased numerous other fish from with no incident. That one dang fish cost me my Copper Band, Orchid Dottyback, 3 Neon Gobies and the Coral Beauty. Those affected but survived were two of my Pajamas. None of the others exhibited any signs. I do not trust any chemicals so I opted for raising the temp to about 85 and lowering the specific gravity (hyposalinty) to about 1.013. This was a very gradual process but considering the fish I had left it was worth the trouble and was successful. I also used the juice from freshly squeezed garlic..which BTW spoiled the Foxface Willis, immensely..again worth it.
It was an expensive lesson, but it is possible to beat Ich if your tank and it's mates is healthy and your willing to spend some time creating an environ that Ich does not like! Just thought I would share. I sorely miss my buddies, I had them for a while. Next addition will be more live rock. Since the upgrade I do not have nearly enough. Will keep all posted.

| Re: SW Disaster Well Sharon, I didn't want to hear that just coming back here! I had a heart attack on May 2nd and haven't gotten over here for some time. I am fine. Doctors were all stumped as all my blood work came back great, Cholesterol was 126, LDL only 44, HDL was good. Well anyway, sometimes you just never know and when the docs don't know they told me it was "genetics". My symptoms (so others will be aware) were not what I deemed "typical". All my discomfort was in my Shoulder blades and went into both shoulders, felt like the muscles were tightening up and then felt tightening of the jaws. I had 100% blockage of the LAD which they label the "widow maker". 76% don't survive so God left me here for a time longer. O.K. enough of that. I have always touted (and still do) Marine-Max by Tropical science. Look into it to avoid another incidence with Ick. I have used it for some time so if you need more info, just ask.

| Re: SW Disaster Hey Unclejed...Welcome back
I had the same kind of train wreck. A diagnosis of "well this doesn't look good, but we will keep an eye on it. LOL, took me out for a couple of months.
Sorry I have nothing to contribute here, saltwater is a elected mystery to me, but I am glad to see you back and contributing.
Best Regards,
Jay

A system I like to follow when adding a new fish is to do a water change, wait one day, add the Marine-Max, wait a few more days (2-3) and add the new fish.

| Re: SW Disaster Really sorry about those losses
Have had a few myself, mainly before i set up my SW cool down tank. Everybody spends a week there with copper, before going in the show tank.
