So, I have read a lot of info and even posts on this forum about how to do water changes in a SW tank and how often we all do them. A lot of this info and ideas have been either 'shady' or vague, as well as conflicting sometimes. So, not to seem too 'poll happy' I wanted to get an idea on what 'drives' each of us when determining when to do a water change...

I also think this may help out some people new to the site or those who may be thinking about the SW option for the future so if you would like to explain your methods for doing a water change (e.g. how much to change, how long to 'cure water', using RO, DI, RO/DI water versus tap water, etc...), I think we can all compare and learn from it!

i am new and have been doing it for little over 4 months and all that i have read and what i have done is 20% water changes every two weeks. i change mine on sundays so every wed night when i come home from work . i use tap water .i make 15 gallons of salt water and add prime by seachem in a medical grade contianer that i got from petsmart. i put a heater and airstone and a pump and put the lid over it and put it my spare bedroom to age it and make sure it is mixed good and near the temp of my fishtank. i have done this and all my test have been perfect and had no problem with my tank.

I would have to be honest and say we try to do scheduled water changes but we often times forget because of our busy lives...and kick ourselves in the butt later!
Its a horrible thing to confess I guess but i would much rather be honest!
